A6 C7 Interior light LED replacement
In this post i will show you guys how to replace the interior lights with LED bulbs.
In my A6, I have the lightning package 1: LED footwell lights, LED door lights.
I also have the LED lights in my door handles on the outside and inside but i wanted to have the dome lights also to be LED.
What you need for this conversion:
- 3x 37mm Festoon LED (2 for sun visors and 1 for the front dome)
- 5x 194 Wedge LED (T10) (2 for the front dome, 2 for the rear dome and 1 for the trunk)
- Torx 15 Screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver
First of all we will begin with the front dome light.
Stick the flat head screwdriver between the roof and the dome and give it a light pull. Just be careful to not damage the dome.
Once the cover is remove from the cluster you can place the Festoon LED into the dome. Just pull the old one out and put in the new one.
You will see 1 torx 15 screw that needs to be removed from the dome cluster.
Once removed you can pull out the whole unit. Just be careful not to pull to hard cause there are multiple cables connected to the dome.
You don’t need to remove al connectors. You can gently turn out the black bulb holders as shown in the image below.
Now replace the stock bulbs with the 194 Wedge T10 ones (one on each side) but again be careful because most LED T10’s are thicker than the original one so be patient when putting the LED bulbs into the bulb holder.
I damaged the bulb holder when pushing the LED one into the holder and had to buy a new bulb holder to be warned.
Once the LEDs are installed you can test it before putting everything together again. If all LEDs are working you now can put the cluster together again.
Now we are going to replace the lights at the sun visors.
I will begin with the right side of the car. Pull out the glass by sticking the flat head screwdriver between the light and the roof on the inner side ( not at the side of the side windows ).
The light will stick and you can disconnect the cables and insert the Festoon LED bulb ( remove the cover and you can replace the light).
Now do the same at the other side. Keep in mind to stick the screwdriver again at the inner side of the car. NOT the side of the side window.
Now go to the rear of the car and do the rear dome.
I don’t have any pictures of the rear dome ( and I don’t want to disassemble it again) but it can be a little pain in the ass.
You need to stick the screwdriver between the dome and roof on the 4 different places (see picture below).
It’s a little bit tricky so just look out not to damage the roof or the pin of the dome.
Once you got the dome out, you just need to remove the bulb holder, take out the old bulbs and replace it with the 2 194 Wedge ones. Same like the front dome: Be careful pushing the new LEDs into the bulb holder.
The last one is the one in the trunk.
I have a sedan so it may be different as an avant. My trunk only contains 1 lights, which is very easy to remove.
Just pull out the light dome with the screwdriver and take out the old bulb to replace it with the LEDs.
I will post some pictures later on from the result.
